What is Pelvic Physiotherapy?

About Pelvic Physiotherapy

Pelvic Health concerns are more common than most people imagine. Common symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction include:

  • Leakage of urine with coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercise
  • Rushing to the toilet for fear of leaking or leaking before you can get there
  • A bulging, heaviness, or pulling feeling inside the vagina
  • Pain in the pelvic, groin, buttock area
  • Pain or discomfort with intercourse

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is a safe, effective treatment option offered by highly trained and certified Physiotherapists.

Treatment

In order to properly assess the pelvic floor, an internal exam is performed to assess imbalances and dysfunction in the muscles and soft tissue. If this feels like a barrier, we encourage you to discuss this with your physiotherapist. We are here to provide reassurance and discuss current research while respecting your needs. Occasionally, with persistent pain, the internal component occurs later in the treatment plan once external muscles and tissues have been addressed and you feel confident in this next step of treatment. Treatment will typically include elements of manual therapy, soft tissue release, postural alignment, breathing techniques, establishing healthy bladder and bowel habits, pelvic floor muscle facilitation and exercise programs, and educational training. Treatment plans are individually tailored to address your specific condition, goals, and needs.
